Publication Fee Policy

Nafenzi Press is committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, and integrity in all aspects of its publishing operations. This Publication Fee Policy explains the principles, scope, and conditions related to any fees associated with the publication of manuscripts.

The policy is designed to ensure that publication decisions are based solely on academic merit and editorial quality, and are never influenced by an author’s ability to pay.

1. General Policy

Nafenzi Press does not charge mandatory submission fees. All manuscripts are evaluated through the editorial and peer review process independently of any publication fees.

Any applicable fees are clearly communicated to authors only after an editorial decision has been made or when a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.

2. Peer Review and Editorial Independence

The peer review process at Nafenzi Press is conducted in accordance with its Peer Review Process and Publication Ethics policies.

Editors and reviewers are not informed of any payment status during the review process. Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scholarly quality, originality, relevance, and compliance with ethical standards.

3. Types of Fees

Depending on the nature and format of the publication, Nafenzi Press may apply limited and clearly defined fees, which may include:

  • Production and layout services
  • Copyediting and proofreading
  • ISBN registration and metadata processing
  • Printing and physical distribution (for print editions)
  • Optional enhanced services requested by the author

All fees are non-refundable once the corresponding service has been initiated, unless otherwise stated in writing.

4. Open Access and Licensing Considerations

For publications released under open access licenses, any applicable fees are intended solely to cover legitimate publishing and production costs.

The choice of license does not affect the integrity of the editorial decision-making process. Licensing terms are stated transparently for each publication.

5. Fee Disclosure and Author Agreement

Authors will be informed in advance of:

  • The nature and amount of any applicable fees
  • The services covered by the fees
  • The payment timeline and method

No fees will be charged without the author’s explicit acknowledgment and agreement.

6. Waivers and Reductions

In certain circumstances, Nafenzi Press may consider fee waivers or reductions, particularly for:

  • Authors from under-resourced institutions
  • Public-interest or non-commercial publications
  • Projects aligned with educational or social development goals

Requests for waivers or reductions must be submitted in writing and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

7. Payment Ethics and Misconduct

Payment of any publication-related fees does not guarantee acceptance, faster review, or preferential treatment.

Any attempt to influence editorial decisions through financial means will be considered unethical and may result in rejection or withdrawal of the manuscript.

8. Transparency and Accountability

Nafenzi Press maintains accurate records of all fee-related transactions and ensures that financial practices are conducted responsibly and in accordance with applicable regulations.

Questions or concerns regarding publication fees may be directed to the editorial office prior to or after submission.

9. Policy Updates

This Publication Fee Policy may be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect changes in publishing practices, regulations, or operational needs.

Any updates will be communicated transparently through official channels.

10. Official Statement

Nafenzi Press is committed to ethical, transparent, and responsible publishing practices. All publication-related fees are applied solely to support sustainable publishing operations and never to influence editorial or peer review decisions.
